Meet the Team at Niko Niko Dental
Our Story & Philosophy
Niko Niko Dental has been dedicated to family dentistry since 1984, when it was first established by Dr. Sasaki. Over the years, the practice was passed down to Dr. Mitani and then Dr. Moriguchi, each contributing to the strong foundation of patient-centered care that continues today. It’s rare to find a dental practice that has served multiple generations, and we take great pride in continuing that tradition.
The name “Niko Niko” means “smile,” which reflects our philosophy—creating a comfortable and reassuring experience while helping patients love their smiles. While we continue to modernize with new technologies, our core values remain the same: quality care, trust, and putting patients first.
Our Services & Approach
We offer a full range of general and cosmetic dental services, including routine cleanings, checkups, veneers, teeth whitening, implant restorations, emergency visits, partials, dentures, root canals, and extractions. Soon, we’ll be incorporating laser technology and digital scanners to enhance our care.
Every new patient starts with a comprehensive appointment to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to their needs. Whether you're a long-time patient or new to our practice, our goal is to provide exceptional care in a welcoming environment for you and your family.
Dr. Trey Thalmann
Dr. Trey Thalmann—known by most as Dr. Trey—was born and raised in Southern California. He comes from a diverse background, with a Japanese and Korean heritage from his mother’s side and Swiss roots from his father. Growing up, he was an avid athlete, playing ice hockey, soccer, and tennis, and he continues to play ice hockey today. Until the age of 16, he was fully committed to becoming a professional ice hockey player and was even offered an opportunity to play in Europe. However, he soon realized that professional sports was not the path he had envisioned and shifted his focus toward education.
Dr. Trey pursued a degree in pre-med Biology at Loyola Marymount University, preparing for a career in the medical field. However, as he learned more about the demands of general medicine, his interest began to shift. His older sister, now a pediatric dentist, introduced him to dentistry during her residency in New York. Through shadowing various dentists, he noticed the unique balance of professionalism and approachability in the field. The hands-on nature of the work, combined with the opportunity to create a more relaxed and comfortable patient experience, inspired him to pursue dentistry.
After working as a dental assistant, Dr. Trey earned his dental degree from the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. Following graduation, he moved to Colorado, where he gained valuable experience working as the sole associate in a private practice while also working part-time alongside other dentists. This period of his career provided him with an accelerated and unexpected learning experience. However, as the focus of his work in Colorado began to shift more toward profit-driven objectives, he sought a practice that aligned better with his values. The opportunity to work with and learn from Dr. Moriguchi in California was too good to pass up, leading him to return to his home state.
Dr. Trey lives by the motto “Be better than I was yesterday.” His dental philosophy is centered around making the dental office a place where patients feel comfortable and at ease. His primary goals are to help patients feel confident about their teeth and to ensure they can eat whatever they want, whenever they want—without discomfort or hesitation.
